Catching up on classics, I guess--though Arthur Gordon Pym certainly wouldn't be one...just old.
This, on the other hand, had a lot more to it. The writing was lovely--especially after listening to Poe. Obviously, the "special boy" to "veteran" transition was the core, but I particularly like the side characters, even when they were there for only a few sentences. I thought he sketched well.
And when the youth's ears were filled cups and could no more hear the sounds of battle, mine were too. The sentiment of the book at the point matched the construction of the prose. Nicely done.
